The Beginning
In 1931, three local women golfers conceived the ideas of a women’s golf association in Ann Arbor. They felt Ann Arbor women should have the opportunity for organized golf activities. On Sept. 2, 1931 a meeting was held at the Ann Arbor Golf & Outing Club & the AAWGA was born.

AAWGA Today
Every AAWGA play date is a low pressure, mini-tournament as golfers scores are rated next to others in the handicap class. The low gross & low net score in each class, or flight, wins a new golf ball. The more times a player wins one of these small prizes, she is one score closer to winning the season low gross CLARA CUSHING Trophy or season low net BARBARA ROTVIG Trophy. While the AAWGA is no longer the home of the Ann Arbor Women’s City Championship, the AAWGA holds an annual two round handicapped tournament, the CILE CISSEL Net Championship. Since 2011, the AAWGA also holds an annual two day stroke play tournament, the RUTH SPANGENBERG Memorial Tournament.
